L’épaisseur des murs

“For the way the film reveals through religious practices a neighborhood of Port-au-Prince struggling with its changes and conflicts, and for its formal qualities of sound, image and editing. Facing a clear increase in conservative and various forms of intolerance – including religious – the film gives us a space to share experiences with voodoo practitioners who still suffer the political persecution in the country that was the first in the Americas to rise up against the colonial yoke.” – Jury of the International Film Festival of Recife, Brazil, 2015

SUMMARY

To the heart of a Port-au-Prince neighborhood in Haiti, in the Jean-Max voodoo house, those whom he calls his “children” operate the singular metamorphosis of the place. Through daily life and the religious journey, we follow the thread of a memory that reflects both an extraordinary cultural strength an beauty, religious conflicts and the wounded face of Haitian society. Voices from the past and present resound and question a certain chaotic off-screen reality in the country…
