Hazo mena Les hommes du bois rouge

An immersion among three young workers in Madagascar. Worn by the sounds and the rhythm of their gestures, by their words and songs, this film is a tribute to their extraordinary skills. It also invites us to reflect on what from craftsman made them, in fact, exploited workers. From red eucalyptus trunks slaughtering by ax, to wood transport to the city gates by raft, we penetrate the heart of a subsistence economy sector, reflection of a system in which, each man, woman and child is ready to take on any task for only pennies…

“For the way the film reveals through religious practices a neighborhood of Port-au-Prince struggling with its changes and conflicts, and for its formal qualities of sound, image and editing. Facing a clear increase in conservative and various forms of intolerance – including religious – the film gives us a space to share experiences with voodoo practitioners who still suffer the political persecution in the country that was the first in the Americas to rise up against the colonial yoke.”, Jury of the International Film Festival of Recife, Brazil, 2015

L’épaisseur des murs

To the heart of a Port-au-Prince neighborhood in Haiti, in the Jean-Max voodoo house, those whom he calls his “children” operate the singular metamorphosis of the place. Through daily life and the religious journey, we follow the thread of a memory that reflects both an extraordinary cultural strength an beauty, religious conflicts and the wounded face of Haitian society. Voices from the past and present resound and question a certain chaotic off-screen reality in the country…
